HighlyDef Productions creates "film-like" High Definition (HD) content, primarily for the entertainment industry. Our specialties include EPK's (Electronic Press Kits), short films, music videos, and documentaries.

High Definition Video

The secret to our success is the ability to combine old-school film techniques and fundamentals with the latest advances in digital video technology. The result is an amazingly professional, "film-like", HD product at prices substantially lower than film.

We believe in the HD format so much that we shoot in HD even when the final product will be delivered in SD. For example, all of our DVDs are delivered in "widescreen" (16:9) format, so they are letterboxed on a "regular" TV but completely fill the screen (without stretching) on a widescreen TV.

Did you know?
An HD image contains 2.7x the information of an SD image!
Keep in mind the DVDs you buy at the store are SD, so we are talking roughly 2.7x the picture quality of a DVD*! The result is a clearer, more detailed, "hyper-real" image that can be displayed on very large screens (well over 100") without distortion. Simply put, HD is video's answer to film.

*This is an oversimplification of course, there is much more to image quality than just resolution, such as lens quality, composition, lighting, frame-rate, etc. In other words, "garbage in, garbage out." However, this gives you a general idea of the potential quality of HD vs. SD, all other things being equal.
